Fame Reunion 2017 In L.A. People Magazine Article

Calling all Fame fans! The cast of the hit ’80s show is reuniting for a 35th anniversary concert — and it’s for a good cause.

Stars Debbie Allen, Jesse Borrego, Cynthia Gibb, Erica Gimpel, Billy Hufsey, Carlo Imperato, Valerie Landsburg and P.R. Paul are scheduled to appear at the event, which will take place at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, California, on July 13.

The evening, which marks the first concert in the U.S. by the cast members since 1985, will feature hit songs from the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning drama series — and will benefit The Actors Fund, a national human services organization that focuses on helping individuals in performing arts and entertainment during times of need, crisis or transition. The evening’s musical director is Yaron Spiwak.

“Performing artists have an especially unpredictable life so it is my honor to support The Actors Fund, an organization dedicated to ‘being there’ for us,” Gimpel, who starred as Coco Hernandez on the show, tells PEOPLE.

She continues: “I can’t wait to sing some of my favorite songs from Fame and to celebrate, along with my fellow cast mates, our magical series which has continued to inspire young artists around the world for the last 35 years. This will be an amazing celebration!”

Echoes Landsburg, who plays Doris Schwartz: “I spent four years of my life with these people. I was 22 when we made the pilot, and because 90 percent of it took place in the school, we were together all the time.”

“It was virtually impossible to have not become a kind of family,” she shares. “35 years later we are falling right back into place with each other, singing and dancing and loving each other.”

Adds Gibb, who starred as Holly Laird: “The Actors Fund is so important to performers, whose incomes are inherently inconsistent. Our work comes in waves, which makes planning for the future very difficult. Even for those actors who work regularly, an event such as a strike by any one of our unions can devastate an actor and his family.”

“It is so important that there are safety nets in place to take care of each other during the challenging times,” she explains. “The Actors Fund is one of the most important nets that we can rely upon.”

Among the songs that will be included in the concert are Fame classics including “Out Here On My Own,” “Starmaker,” “Life Is A Celebration” and the famous title song.

Based on the 1980 film of the same name, Fame debuted on NBC in January 1982 and followed the lives of the students and staff at New York City’s High School for the Performing Arts. Following the show’s worldwide success, the cast went on to produce several hit records and perform at sold-out concerts.

Tickets are now on sale at www.actorsfund.org/Fame.
